Hello everyone! My name is Ivan Fuentes Hagar. I've seen that people introducing themselves online usually start saying what do they do, or what is their profession. Well, I have studied filmmaking for quite a while now (Communications Bachelor, a Filmmaking Masters, and several other courses), and been working for some time as well (shorts, TV, publicity and a feature). I have also done some other nice, interesting stuff: Growing up with computers (* cough cough* geek *cough*), I got to be pretty good with technology, and web design. I'm also a photographer (you have to check the gallery!) and a teacher. Yes, I teach! I've being doing that for a while.
So, that's what I do, now, what's my profession? One of these days, while attending a Q&A by brilliant Sir Ben Kingsley, he spoke about this figure who has taught people since the very beginnings of our times, communicating their message through tales and magic. I realized everything I do, tends to go towards communicating magic to as many people as I could, and with the ambition that one of this days, my messages will teach something to the people who enjoy it's magic: My craft is storytelling. Like those tribal storytellers that told stories in front of the flickering fire. Only my message goes on the flickering screen. And instead of my pictures being carved in stone, they're scribed with light. I'm a storyteller.

Batman: Broken Bat When I was a kid, I always wanted to do some sort of superhero film... last year, on the verge of becoming 27, I realized that in the years to come, that would only become less likely. Thus, the decision to make a superhero "fanfilm" before it was too late! The choice for Batman was quite easy... first of all, the budget: A character with no superpowers would better fit my $1000 budget. Second, the genre: If I can be honest, making a Batman video seemed like the perfect excuse to experiment with Film Noir, which is BY FAR one of my favorite visual styles. |

500 Curves Day out with friends from urbanperformance.net, with a short stop at the track to watch a couple of Club Autosport Races. Called "500 Curves" for obvious reasons, although I didn't shoot much of the curves... next time I've got to get a spare battery pack! Took the chance to play with the camera, settings, experimenting in post, etc. Thanks to Fredrik Blom for the awesome soundtrack. He composes incredible music. You can find out more about him and his work at fredrikblom.com |

eCards Spec Promo Spot made with my sister for her final exam. This is actually the real first footage I ever shot with my HV right out of the box. Shot and cut in 1 afternoon, no color grading nor retouching since (yup, i DO know the thread pulling the bear's car is pretty noticeable, I might work on that one day). My sister and I enjoyed a lot shoting this. We also made some storyboards and a nice set of animatics for the exam. |

Pre-USA Reel When I first arrived to the States, for my second Masters Degree, my house was broken into, and everything stolen. Computer, drives (including backups), and what hit me the most, my camera. From back home, my fiancee sent me a drive with some stuff she had copied from my old computer. This is part of what was recovered, thanks to her. They say behind every great mean, there's a great woman. I disagree. I have a great woman not behind me, but right next to me. |
Don't you hate the "more pictures will be added" messages everywhere? Well, I do... but the thing is, there's always new photographs being taken, and I couldn't resist sharing them... In fact...
there's a nice urban set taken at Los Angeles and Hollywood, coming real soon!
